The Heard First Awards is the first award ceremony of its kind, honoring the gigging musicians and producers who are the backbone of the music industry. These are the creators who shape the sound behind the spotlight, driving the heartbeat of every performance and studio session. While artists may stand center stage, it is the musicians and producers who infuse their talent into each note, building the foundation on which the music world thrives. Through their craft, they evoke emotion, inspire action, and create connection, often without the recognition they deserve—until now.
What began as a movement to honor the hardworking musicians of North Alabama has quickly grown into something greater. As we continue to spotlight and celebrate local talent, we are setting our sights on expanding our reach to musicians across the country. Our vision is to grow into a national award ceremony, ensuring that gigging musicians and producers everywhere receive the recognition they deserve.
We believe that music is a force of transformation, and the power of those who create it extends far beyond entertainment. Musicians and producers give voice to the human experience, breaking down barriers and resonating with people from all walks of life. The Heard First Awards exists to celebrate these unsung heroes, to give them the spotlight, and to ensure their contributions are not only acknowledged but cherished for the vital role they play in shaping culture and bringing our collective stories to life.
Pat Jamar, recipient of the 2024 Bandstand Award, the most prestigious honor of the Heard First Awards, exemplifies the heart of the music industry. Nominated by his peers, this award recognizes not just skill but integrity, character, and impact, all of which Pat embodies. As one of the most respected musicians in the area, Pat’s dedication to his craft is rivaled only by his devotion to his family. Often leaving performances to care for his wife, Sidney, who is courageously battling a rare cancer, Pat balances his role as a performer with being a loving husband and father to their two young children. Both Pat and Sidney were honored for their unwavering strength and commitment to each other and the community. In recognition of his contributions, funds were raised to help Pat acquire a new computer, supporting his continued work as a musician and producer.
